GPS

Where can I find the cheapest handheld GPS locator? I only need it for a movie prop, not to actually track.?

All I really need is a realistic-looking gadget. It needs to display a number showing the distance (in feet/meters/whatever) from the object it is tracking.

  1. Maybe one of those electronic disposal places would just give you an old/fixable one, or perhaps ebay. Or if a store is selling their old floor models. Try going somewhere that sells cheap knockoffs, maybe a swap meet, or an online store that sells refurbished products, like http://www.geeks.com/
  2. If you don't need a working model, you can probably get a dummy GPS for under 15 bucks. These are actual devices without working screens or internals. They are used by retailers as display models (you can actually get a lot of types of prop electronics this way). For instance: http://aztekcomputers.com/detail.php/part_num/WNT74222 that is a car GPS system, if you need handhelds search google for "Dummy Handheld GPS" or "dummy [model]" where [model] is the model number of the one u like. They will usually have a sticker over the non-working screen with a simulated display. If you actually need the numbers to change on it you can either digitally edit the display in later if you have that technology or you will need to buy a used one off ebay and that wont be cheap.
