anybody know of any good handheld gps devices available or coming out in future?
IIve seen alot of gps hardware and 1 of the things that they all have in common and that stands out the most is that the graphics,/interface designs are absolutly atrocious. Why don't they release gps hardware that intergrates google maps inside of them? I think the iphone 3g does this but I cannot afford rogers monthly rates.

- I'm very pleased with my Navigon 5100.
- The problem with using Google Maps or Google Earth with a GPS device is that both are online services. This means that to have access to the maps you'd have to have a constant WiFi connection. There are projects underway that query and store the Google Earth & Maps tiles but this does actually go against the EULA for both of these products. Some other projects are underway to create an opensource or free for the public map tiles but these projects rely heavily on user input and help so they are at the mercy of how much data a user will log, upload and then refine.
