Can you bring a handheld gps on a comercial plane????????

I have a handheld gps and I think it would be cool if i could see where we were and when we would land. Because the cockpit has gps so why couldent passengers gps only recieves a signal not transmits.

  1. While I would agree with you that a normal GPS should not be a problem they do not allow them on airplanes. Even if you have a airplane GPS with you it might cause some questions specifically during airport screening.
  2. Why would you need to take a GPS with you? On most long haul flights you get a seat back tv which gives you the information you require and also the temperature outside the aircraft and the speed.
  3. All electronic devices are to be turn off when the air plane is moving and that includes GPS . It could interfere with its own navigation system . And it does make sense to me I wouldn't want to be responsible for an aircraft's accident because I would want to see where we are and where we will land . Please ask at the airline counter just before boarding if they will allow you to do it , and I am sure the answer will be no . Think of others safety and not of your enjoyment while you are on the plane . Have a great day .
  4. Im pretty sure you can, as long as its batteries are in it...i dont thin airlines wont mind.
  5. Federal Law, you have to keep it turned off.
  6. I took my cell phone with me last week and didn't realize it was still on until I heard it beeping mid flight (roaming). I used Verizon Navigator to find my way to the airport and guess it was still running when we took off. It didn't work that high up, of course they use cell towers to pinpoint your location. Nonetheless, I do think it'd be cool to see yourself travelling that fast. Make a right at the next... recalculating route. Make a left... recalculating route You are not on a road... Recalculating...
  7. You can take it on board with you. They just won't let you turn it on. If they do catch you with it on, they'll tell you to shut it off. Look sheepish and embarrassed. Say "Oops, sorry 'bout that." Blush and comply. That'll be the end of it usually. No harm. No foul. Just don't let them catch you doing it again.
  8. No, if it recieves or transmits a signal it should be turned off at the gate.
